SU doctoral student dies Saturday
A Syracuse University student in the College of Arts and Sciences died June 15.
Joseph Hughes was an English doctoral student and University Fellow. He was chosen to be a Teaching Associate in SU’s English Department for the 2013-14 academic year, Chancellor Nancy Cantor said in a Sunday email.
A New Orleans native, Hughes was pursuing his Ph.D. at SU with a focus on 18th century British literature, according to Cantor’s email.
The university plans to contact Hughes’ family in the near future, and SU counseling services are available to those who have been affected, said Thomas Wolfe, senior vice president and dean of student affairs.
Said Wolfe: “Those in student and academic affairs, particularly within the English department of Arts and Sciences, are extending their support during this difficult time.”
