Syracuse field hockey was ranked No. 10 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Preseason Poll. In the poll, the Orange tallied 512 points, 115 more than No. 11 Liberty University. SU didn’t notch any first-place votes out of the 48 tallied.

Last season, Syracuse was ranked No. 11 before bowing out in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals. Since then, SU has lost its top-three goal scorers and its starting goaltender, Brooke Borzymowski, from last season.

No. 1 Northwestern leads the preseason poll, garnering 27 first-place votes, while No. 2 North Carolina and No. 3 Virginia rounded out the top three. Including No. 5 Duke and No. 7 Louisville — along with SU, UNC and UVA — the Atlantic Coast Conference accounts for half of the teams in the top 10.

Entering her second season as the head coach for Syracuse, Lynn Farquhar will have her work cut out for her, as SU is set to face nine of the 20 schools ranked in the poll. Syracuse’s season begins on the road against Lock Haven Friday at 3 p.m.
