Executive to give talk on modern marketing

Rich Feldman, a managing partner of marketing agency Source Marketing, will give a lecture at the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

The 1981 Syracuse University alumnus will speak as part of the Eric Mower Advertising Forum. His talk is titled, “The Five Most Important Words in Marketing Today,” according to the event page on the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication’s website.

James Tsao, professor and chair of Newhouse’s advertising department, said he played a role in bringing Feldman to campus.

“We’re trying to expand our students’ knowledge in different centers of the advertising business,” he said.

Feldman has more than 25 years of experience in the field and has worked to create programs for brands such as IBM, Time Warner Cable, LivingSocial and HBO, according to the event page.

“Everyone learning advertising will want to know about this topic,” said Program Coordinator Karen Greenfield.

Those in attendance will be encouraged to live tweet the event with the hashtag #MowerForum, and others who cannot attend can follow the event via Twitter, according to the event page.

Previously, Feldman held positions of executive vice president and creative director at Blau Marketing Technologies, and also served as creative director at Y&R/Chapman, according to the event page.

Tsao stressed that this event is not just for advertising majors.

“I encourage all types of majors to attend, not just advertisers,” he said. “You never know, you might learn something that could help you once you leave here.”

Speakers visiting the university can provide students with opportunities to learn that they may not otherwise be exposed to, Tsao said.

“Typically, we’d like students to learn something they cannot learn from the classroom or lecture,” Tsao said. “Something that’s cutting-edge information for the students.”
