Syracuse men’s lacrosse landed at the No. 12 spot in Inside Lacrosse’s preseason poll on Monday before the start of the 2022 season.
Last season, the Orange finished No. 11 in the final rankings after falling to then-No. 6 Georgetown in the first round of the NCAA Championship. Syracuse finished with an overall record of 7-6, following a 2020 season when it went undefeated before the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the rest of the year.
Four other Atlantic Coast Conference teams were ranked in the top-15 of this year’s poll, including Virginia at the No. 1 position. The Orange played the Cavaliers twice last season, winning by 10 goals when Virginia was ranked third and winning by two goals when Virginia was ranked fifth. Duke and North Carolina, who both defeated the Orange once last year, sit at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively.
Four Syracuse players were also mentioned in Inside Lacrosse’s preseason All-Americans list. Midfielder Tucker Dordevic was ranked the highest out of the bunch, receiving third team honors following 23 goals and eight assists in 2021, the fourth-most points on the team. Midfielder Brendan Curry, attackman Owen Hiltz and long-stick midfielder Brett Kennedy were all named honorable mentions.
Syracuse opens the 2022 season on Feb. 12 against Holy Cross at the Carrier Dome.
