Syracuse cross country and track and field has hired alum Shannon Malone as an assistant coach, the program announced Wednesday. Malone will specialize in coaching distance runners and assisting in recruiting and fundraising. Prior to officially joining the coaching staff, Malone was a volunteer coach for the program.

“I’m thrilled to be back at Syracuse and to join the coaching staff full-time,” Malone said in the press release. “This program holds a special place in my heart, and I am excited to be a part of its continued success. Coming back feels like coming home.”

Malone ran cross country and track for the Orange from 2015-18, competing in the 6k in cross country and the 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000-meter events in track. While at Syracuse, she was named to the All-ACC team twice in cross country and all-conference three times in track.

In the upcoming fall cross country season, the men, who finished ninth at the NCAA Championships last year, are looking to notch their 16th-straight final appearance. The Orange women, who placed 27th at the 2023 Championships, will hope to defend their NCAA Northeast Regional Championship and reach their fourth consecutive NCAA Championship.
