Syracuse men’s soccer (3-0-3, 0-0-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) has remained at No. 7 in Week 4 of the United Soccer Coaches poll, which was released on Tuesday. The Orange received zero first place votes but remained the highest ranked Atlantic Coast Conference school.
The Orange took home a 1-1 draw in their most recent game against then-No. 20 Wake Forest on Saturday. It marked the third game in 2023 where Syracuse tied versus a ranked opponent. Previously, SU tied then-No. 20 Penn State (1-1) and then-No. 7 Louisville (2-2).
Nicholas Kaloukian pounded home a goal 80 seconds into Syracuse’s matchup with the Demon Deacons. From there, though, the Orange failed to replicate Kaloukian’s early strike. They didn’t put another shot on goal for the remainder of the contest. SU held onto its 1-0 lead for over 70 minutes, but Wake Forest’s Sidney Paris drilled an equalizing penalty kick in the 75th minute.
While they remain undefeated, struggles in the attacking third have prevented the Orange from playing up to their National Championship standard. Outside of Lorenzo Boselli’s team-high four goals, offensive production has been sparse. Syracuse ranks 176th in the country in shot accuracy.
