As a doubles pair, Miranda Ramirez and Gabriela Knutson dropped 11 spots as the tennis team prepares for the NCAA tournament.

As Syracuse (13-12, 5-9 Atlantic Coast) turns its attention toward the NCAA tournament, it dropped one spot from No. 30 to No. 31 in the latest ITA rankings released on Tuesday. Sixty-four teams qualify for the NCAA tournament, which begins on May 3.

This past weekend, the Orange defeated then-No. 38 Georgia Tech 4-3 in the second round of the ACC tournament before losing 4-0 to then-No. 2 North Carolina in the quarterfinals. It was the second consecutive year that SU lost in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament and the second time this season that the Orange lost to UNC. The Tar Heels defeated SU 5-2 on March 29.

Gabriela Knutson stayed at No. 13 in the singles rankings after going 1-1 last weekend. Knutson won in three sets on Thursday before losing in straight-sets on Friday.  It’s the first time in five weeks that she didn’t move up in the singles rankings.

Likewise, Miranda Ramirez’s singles ranking didn’t change. She remained at No. 97 after going 1-1 against the Yellow Jackets and Tar Heels. Ramirez won 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 on Thursday against Georgia Tech’s Verliya Deminova before she lost to UNC’s No. 14 Sara Daavettila, 6-3 6-0, on Friday.

As a doubles pair, Knutson and Ramirez dropped 11 spots from No. 56 to No. 67. In their two ACC tournament matches, SU’s No. 1 pairing won 6-3 against Georgia Tech before dropping a 6-1 match to UNC.

Sofya Golubovskaya and Sonya Treshcheva dropped out of the doubles rankings after climbing to No. 84 last week. The two weren’t paired together during the two ACC tournament matches.

Syracuse will find out its NCAA tournament seeding during next Monday’s selection show at 6:30 p.m. Last year, Syracuse lost 4-1 in the first round to Wichita State, with Dina Hegab picking up the lone SU point in her straight-set win.
