Syracuse senior runner Justyn Knight finishes 9th at IAAF World Championship final

Knight has stitched together a stellar career in three years at SU, including an NCAA team cross country championship, seven All-America nods, seven Atlantic Coast Conference individual titles and four ACC team championships.
Syracuse senior runner Justyn Knight placed ninth Saturday afternoon at the IAAF World Championship in the 5000-meters.
Knight, representing team Canada, clocked in at 13:39.15, behind Ethiopia’s Muktar Edris (gold medalist), Great Britain’s Mo Farah (silver) and Paul Chelimo of the United States (bronze).

On Wednesday, Knight zoomed from the back of the pack to finish fourth in his heat and earn his spot Saturday in the final. Knight was in 12th with 800 meters to go in the 5000-meter race when he kicked and began passing runners. His fourth place finish (13:30.27) gave him one of the five automatic qualifying spots in the world final, which began Saturday at 3:20 p.m. and aired on NBC Sports Network. He faced 14 other runners for the world title.
Knight enters the 2017 cross country season as the 2016 runner-up. He had a top-three finish at nationals in both indoor and outdoor track last year, too.
Overall, he has stitched together a stellar career in three years at SU. He has an NCAA team cross country championship, seven All-America nods, seven Atlantic Coast Conference individual titles, four ACC team championships and three NCAA Northeast Region cross country team crowns (two individual NCAA regional championships as well).
