This week in Pulp, check out an innovative Sadler chef and a forward-looking student manager . Read about these stories and more by going to Pulp or clicking on the headings.

1. Sadler sauce

One night in November 2013, Sadler chef Rod Wallenbeck stayed behind in Sadler Dining Center to get creative with some leftovers. What he concocted would become Rodfather’s Premium BBQ Sauce, which is now sold throughout Syracuse and in the Syracuse University Bookstore. Wallenbeck also built his business model at SU, in the now-discontinued hospitality and food service management program at the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. His professor, Joe Adamo, helped Wallenbeck perfect his recipe and reach out to local businesses. Wallenbeck hopes to get the sauce into all of the dining halls and the Dome someday.

2. Staying positive

If you’re stressed about finals, humor columnist Evan Hohenwarter had some reasons for you to smile. He reminded students to look at the bright side of finals and what lays beyond them. Planning a Secret Santa exchange with your friends and attending a basketball game were his suggestions for destressing in the moment. For those looking for inspiration to get to the end, Hohenwarter mentioned the new Star Wars movie to be released Dec. 18 and making up for lost sleep during Winter Break.

3. Talented musicians

Students in HNR 340: “Inside the Words and Music” put on the Syracuse University Songwriter Showcase on Friday night. The event featured 12 SU and ESF performers, all of whom had to audition for a spot in the lineup. The class, led by professor Jeffrey Rodgers, analyzes songs lyrics throughout the year, but the showcase connects them to songwriters on campus. Coordinating the event is a team effort and every student is assigned a position. The class is part of the Reneé Crown University Honors Program.

4. Resilient student manager

Sophomore Lenn Brown felt a strange sensation in his head at 12 years old. In December 2008, he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Now, after a taxing battle with his cancer, Brown is a student manager of the men’s basketball team. He said he grew up as an Orange fan and always knew he wanted to go to SU. He’s now working with and around his favorite team on a regular basis.

I learned that life is a gift and that every day is a gift.
Lenn Brown

5. Box office winners

Movie columnist Erik Benjamin discussed one of the great Thanksgiving traditions: going to the movies. He broke down the winners and losers of the Thanksgiving weekend box office, with “Creed” coming out on top. The film’s fresh take on the “Rocky” series made it appealing to both young and old, Benjamin said, which gave it the edge. “Victor Frankenstein” fell flat because confusing balance of comedy and gothic horror, as well as the bad reviews. Staying strong after their premieres during previous weekends were “The Peanuts Movie,” “Spectre” and “Mockingjay—Part 2.”
