Before No. 1 Clemson (9-0, 6-0 Atlantic Coast) comes to the Carrier Dome next weekend, the Tigers clinched the conference title by beating No. 16 Florida State (7-2, 5-2) with a second-half comeback by a score of 23-13.

No. 5 Notre Dame (8-1) carried a 21-3 lead into halftime and survived a Pittsburgh (6-3, 4-1)  comeback attempt, hanging on to win 42-30. Deshone Kizer threw five touchdowns and ran for another.

Early in the second half, Marquise Williams broke the No. 21 North Carolina (8-1, 5-0) school record for passing touchdowns with four more tosses in a 66-31 thumping of in-state rival Duke (6-3, 3-2). 

North Carolina State (6-3, 2-3) walloped struggling Boston College (3-7, 0-7), 24-8, giving the Eagles its sixth consecutive loss.

Only three coaches since World War II have won their first two games as a coach of Miami. Until Saturday. Under interim coach Larry Scott, the Hurricanes (6-3, 3-2) outlasted Virginia (3-6, 2-3) 27-21 with Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya returning from his one-game absence with a concussion.

For the second straight week, a backup quarterback lit up Syracuse (3-6, 1-4) and its defense. Kyle Bolin of Louisville (5-4, 4-2) threw for 362 yards and three touchdowns. Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer had “no idea” Bolin would be starting. Eric Dungey also sustained another injury and beat writer Sam Blum thinks Dungey shouldn’t have even been in the game at that point.
